16.10.2020, 16:34 #News #Best

The 21-year-old Canadian Denis Shapovalov came out a winner in the clash between two one-handed backhands beating the 35-year-old Swiss Stan Wawrinka in straight sets 6/3, 7/5. The match lasted 1 h 40 mins.

«When I was serving for the match, I got nervous, of course. It is very tough to play against him as he is a perfect player», – the Canadian said. Shapovalov will square off with the Russian Andrey Rublev for a spot in the finals of St. Petersburg Open 2020. Their head-to-head is 2-1 in the Canadian’s favor. When asked what advice he would give to the Russians fans who will have mixed feelings, because, one the one hand, Denis has his fans in Russia, too, but on the other Russians love Andrey Rublev and wish him victory, Denis gave it a thought and then implored jokingly: “Please, take pity on me!”
