RUBLEV RALLIES TO BEAT SHAPOVALOV AND MAKE HIS DEBUT IN ST. PETERSBURG OPEN FINALS
The Russian Andrey Rublev, #10in the ATP rankings, who won three titles this season, managed to break the resistance of the second-seed of the St. Petersburg Open 2020 Denis Shapovalov from Canada 4/6, 6/3, 6/4 in 2 hours 9 minutes. This clash turned out to be emotional and very tense, as both tennis players are now in excellent shape. But Rublev served better and made fewer unforced errors (28-44). With this victory, Rublev tied Shapovalov in head-to-heads 2-2.
“He plays incredibly well, we can say that he flies over the court. It was immensely difficult to beat him. The match turned out great. He could have won in two sets, he had chances to make it. I’m extremely glad that I managed to win, let’s see what happens next,” Rublev said after the match.
In the finals, Rublev will compete for the title with the Canadian Milos Raonic or the Croat Borna Coric.
