The Russian duo Evgeny Donskoy and Roman Safiullin who reached the main draw coming off the quallies fell to the second seeds of St. Petersburg Open 2020 Jurgen Melzer from Austria and Edouard Roger-Vasselin from France – 6/2, 7/6(3). In the next round the Melzer-Vasselin will square off with another Russia pair – Daniil Golubev and Evgenii Tiurnev who reached the quarterfinal by walk over (theAustralian James Duckworth has withdrawn due to an elbow injury, so they pulled out together with Ilya Ivashka from Belarus).
The pet of St. Petersburg’s fans – the Dutch with Russian roots Matwe Middelkoop and his partner Marcelo Demoliner from Brazil clinched a victory over their opponents – the third seeds Sander Gille and Joran Vligen from Belgium in straight sets 7/6(1), 7/6(7). The match lasted 1h 31 mins. Demoliner-Middelkoop will vie for a spot in the semis with Taylor Fritz from the USA and Cameron Norrie from Great Britain.
