The Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev reached R2 of St. Petersburg Open 2019, defeating Ilya Ivashka from Belarus. This was their first head-to-head, the clash lasted 1 hour 47 minutes. The third set was a crowd-pleaser, but in the end the fifth-seed of the tournament still managed to prevail – 4/6, 6/0, 6/4. “Actually, it’s unbelievable to play at home – I really love to play at home. But I wasn’t very lucky, and I think the stats show that it’s my first win at home over the last six or seven years, so I’m really happy. The lineup of this tournament has traditionally been very strong, very tough and I’ll just try to show my best tennis and get the best out of it,” – commented Rublev on the court right after his victory. In the next round Andrei Rublev will face the Lithuanians Ricardas Berankins.
